Scenes From a Marriage Choices and Best Choice
At the end of the quest, Geralt can take the rose or leave it with Iris. Taking the rose will cut her connection to the world, erasing the painted world and possibly Iris herself. This will not have any effect on the game other than what happens to Iris, the dog, and the cat.
Leave or Take the Rose
Take the Rose
If you take the rose, Iris and the painted world disappears. The dog and cat are freed from their servitude. As thanks, they will give Geralt advice on how to deal with Gaunter, if Geralt ever decide to stand in his way.
Leave the Rose
Iris returns to her slumber and the dog and cat continue to wait until they are free. Geralt leaves the painted world and finds a portrait of Iris with the rose to bring to Olgierd instead.
Best Choice
Take the Rose
Storywise it would be best to take the rose. The rose binds her to the world, her and her worse memories she relives in the painted world. Taking the rose would free her and the animals from that fate
Scenes From a Marriage Tips and Strategies
Fighting the Caretaker
Preperation
Relict Oil will be effective here.
Attacks
The Caretaker only has 4 attacks. It has normal attacks that are just slow swings, as well as 3 special attacks: an area of effect slam attack that is telegraphed by its area of effect glowing, a forward charging attack, and a defensive area of effect blast.
Tactic
It is best to keep distance and avoid its normal attacks. Wait for it to do either the slam attack or the charge attack. Once it does, you will have an opening to attack afterward.
After the slam attack you will have an opening of 7 seconds maximum, but sometimes less when it recovers more quickly.
The charge attack will give you a smaller opening of 3 seconds. Make sure to dodge right after, as it will do the defensive blast around itself right after.
Fighting the Wraith from the Painting
Preperation
Apply Specter oil before or during the fight. It will make it significantly easier.
Attacks
The wraith only has 2 attacks: a lunge attack and barrage of claw attacks.
Tactic
Make sure that you have applied specter oil, and ready the Yrden sign. It is best to keep some distance and wait for the wraith to attack. Place down Yrden and lead the wraith into it.
Once it attacks, dodge and wait for it to finish. This will be your opening. Proceed to attack it 3 times, then dodge right away, as it will counter-attack immediately.
Continue to do this untill the wraith is dead. Occasionally the wraith will float up and scream. When it does, a painting will glow green. Attack it right away as this will heal the wraith.
Fighting the Ethereal
Preperation
Specter Oil will be effective here. The Blizzard Potion can also be of help here.
Attacks
If the player decided to fight Olgierd in Evil's Soft First Touches, then the Ethereal attacks will be familiar, as they share the same moves. A flurry of strikes, a straight dash attack, a zig-zig dash, sand attacks, and critical strikes (attacks with a red glow).
Tactics
There are 6 copies in the fight. You will be fighting one at a time, unless you wake a dormant one by hitting it. Avoid waking them up, as you can end up being surrounded by them.
The Witcher 3 Should I Take The Rose
The first copy will be weaker than the original Olgierd. As you kill each copy, they become more and more powerful. The trick to beat the Ethereals is to counter the attacks.
Should I Take The Rose Witcher 3 Release
For the first 4 copies, you can counter their normal attacks and follow up with 3 hits before having to dodge the sand attack right after.
However, the last 2 will only let you get 1 hit in. When that happens, it is better to counter the critical strikes. Continue countering and you will eventualy beat it.

first playthrough I let O'Dimm have Olgierd because I thought him a right git after everything he did or caused to happen to Iris, and Vlodimir. But the more I thought about it, the more I thought that there was no way that Olgierd would have knowingly sacrificed Vlod - O'Dimm knew that the only two people Olgierd cared about were Iris and Vlod so maybe it was a coin toss between them as to which one would die...maybe that's part of whatever contract O'Dimm makes with people, that someone dies - that's just a theory anyway I wondered if that was why the guy in the cell next to Geralt died after Geralt made the pact (although of course it's perfectly reasonable to say that he just happened to drown!)
